Shabab Mustafa (born 21 July 1986) is a Bangladeshi web developer and the president of Wikimedia Bangladesh. In 2025, he received the Ekushey Padak as a member of Mehdi Hasan Khan's Avro team for contributions in science and technology.[1][2][3]

Early Life

Shabab Mustafa was born on 21 July 1986. He studied at Dhanmondi Govt. Boys' High School and Dhaka City College. Later, he completed his bachelor's degree in business studies.

Career

Shabab Mustafa initially worked as an accounting teacher. Later, he transitioned into the technology sector and is currently working as a professional web developer.[4]

Volunteering

Avro

Shabab Mustafa served as a moderator for the Avro Keyboard support forum, where he assisted users in troubleshooting issues. Additionally, he played a crucial role in integrating the Probhat and Munir Optima keyboard layouts.

He is a founding member of Wikimedia Bangladesh and has held positions in multiple committees and subcommittees of the international Wikimedia movement. Alongside his work in popularizing Bangla computing, he has also played a leading role in the Linux community in Bangladesh.[5] Additionally, he served six terms on the executive committee of Wikimedia Bangladesh from 2012 to 2023 and was elected as president for three terms in 2018–19, 2022–23, and 2024–25.

Other Activities

Shabab Mustafa is the founding moderator of the Bengali-language technology forum "Amader Projukti Forum." He previously served as the country contact for Ubuntu Bangladesh. He is also a member of the Bangladesh Linux Users Alliance and a former ardentier at Quantum Foundation.

Awards and Honors

In 2025, Shabab Mustafa, along with Mehdi Hasan Khan, Rifat Nabi, and Tanbin Islam Siyam, was nominated for the Ekushey Padak for their contributions to Avro Keyboard in the field of science and technology.[6][7]
