Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (25 June 1900 – 27 August 1979) was a British naval officer and statesman who served as the last Viceroy of India in 1947 and the first Governor-General of independent India.

Mountbatten was born into the British royal family and had a distinguished naval career, serving in both World Wars.
