The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded on 24 October 1945 to promote peace, security, and cooperation among nations.[1] It is headquartered in New York City, United States, and has 193 member states.[2]

History

The United Nations was established after the Second World War to prevent future conflicts and promote international collaboration.[3] It replaced the League of Nations, which failed to prevent World War II.[4]
