A mobile phone, also known as a cell phone or smartphone, is a portable electronic device used for communication, data transfer, and a wide range of other functions. Mobile phones have become ubiquitous in modern society, playing a significant role in personal and professional life, as well as in entertainment, education, and social interactions.[1]
History
The history of mobile phones dates back to the early 20th century, but the first truly portable mobile phone was invented by Martin Cooper in 1973. Cooper, a Motorola executive, made the first publicized mobile phone call on a Motorola DynaTAC, a large, bulky device that could only make voice calls and required a long battery recharge time.[2]
The introduction of 2G networks in the 1990s allowed for more efficient voice communication, and the 2000s saw the advent of 3G networks, enabling mobile internet access. The real breakthrough in mobile phone technology came in 2007 with the launch of the Apple iPhone, which incorporated a touchscreen interface, internet connectivity, and a more user-friendly design, marking the beginning of the smartphone era. Other manufacturers quickly followed suit with their own smartphone models, incorporating features such as cameras, app stores, GPS navigation, and high-speed internet.[3]
