The University of Dhaka (Bengali: ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়), commonly known as Dhaka University or DU, is the oldest university in Bangladesh. It was established on 1 July 1921 during the British colonial period and has been a key center for education, research, and cultural development in the region.[1]

The University of Dhaka was founded to promote higher education and intellectual advancement in Bengal.[2] It played a pivotal role in Bangladesh's political and cultural movements, including the Bengali Language Movement and the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.[3]
